Alaska 2003

 

Alaska is a very rugged, and beautiful state, and is a fifth the size of the United States. In 1994 the census was approximately 606,000 for the entire state. Alaska gained Territorial status with the United States Congress on August 24, 1912 and became the 49th state On January 3, 1959. Most of the population is in 3 major city centers, Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Nome.

We took a drive to see the Matanuska Glacier, approximately 100 miles east of Anchorage. It was a short walk out to the glacier, the color of the ice was an unbelievable blue. You can see two pictures of this glacier below. More on this glacier can be read about at, www.alaska.com
