Welcome to my cybernauts page. What is a cybernaut? Naut comes from nautical or traveler and this is cyberspace. You are
a traveler in cyberspace if you do anything at all here, ergo, a cybernaut. We have created a team called Cybernauts and joined with thousands of other computer users, using computers in an aggregate way to benefit mankind or increase our general knowledge base. The world community grid is one such vehicle accessed here, by which one can add one's own computer to this community effort. My computer is working on a human proteome folding project which is plotting genomes that might lead to cures for cancer, heart disease or other illness's afflicting humankind. Only a few years ago, scientists completed a draft sequence of the Human Genome. While our genes are an amazing repository of information, knowing the genes is only the beginning. It is the proteins made from these genes that actually carry out all the functions that keep us alive. However, scientists still do not know the functions of a large fraction of human proteins. With an understanding of how each protein affects human health, scientists can develop new cures for human disease. Huge amounts of data exist that can identify the role of individual proteins, but it must be analyzed to be useful. This analysis could take years to complete on super computers. World Community Grid hopes to shrink this time to months. One example of the graphics from the world community grid sequence. You are very welcome if you choose to join this project and especially welcome to join my team.

Another popular distributed computing project is seti, (the search for extraterrestrial intelligence at home). I have been a member of that project for several years, along with about 5 million other people from around the world. You can join Seti
by clicking the seti logo.
