I love the ocean. That is one reason for taking a pacific northwest assignment. As soon as possible I decided to find the Ocean. That should
not be too tough. I could just head west and I was sure I would run into it sooner or later. I did do a little more planning than that though.
I asked around and was told that almost everyone escapes the heat in Salem by going to Lincoln City, a popular and reasonably close day trip.
I did a little research on mapquest and found the best road for me to take. I drove along highway 22/18W, than a slight jog after about 60 miles
onto oregon 101 to Lincoln City. I was amazed at the ruggedness of the Oregon Coast. You should see from the pictures embedded in this page, but
in this case the pictures do not do the experience justice. The wind blew, while I was there at a constant 30 mph. The temperature was, to me, a
chilly 60 degrees. I was glad I had brought a light jacket. My dog was in doggy heaven with all of the space to explore. She had not been to the
ocean before. Her ears perked up and she looked at me as if to say, "come on, lets go!!" I had to keep her from drinking the salt water, but she
soon caught on. We had a wonderful walk on the beach of perhaps 2 miles round trip. The beach stretched as far as my eyes could see, and was
almost deserted. There were only a handful of other hearty souls there this day. <--You can find out more about this beautiful part of the States by visiting some of the links on the left column. | br>

My sister came out to visit me for my birthday and wanted to see the ocean. We decided to go to another city we had heard of, Pacific City. We saw sand dunes here not visible from where I was in Lincoln City. We watched some people attempt to ride their jeep on the beach with very little luck. Later as we were getting ready to leave and find some food, we saw that the people with the jeep had figured it out, and were tooling down the beach at a pretty fair clip. Walking on the sand dunes had me finding muscles I forgot I had. I have two pictures available of the beach at Pacific City. You can see some similarities and some differences in the two beaches, though the cities are only about 4o miles apart. Again, I was amazed at the ruggedness of Oregon's coast, and I am hoping to have enough time to see a few more beaches before I head home. Up until now I have only been to the Pacific Ocean in Southern California.
