Brian wasn't sure what the name of it was, but stated that his mother was doing some 'weird sh**' and it 'supposedly makes you feel better without actually touching you. He said he couldn't keep a straight face when she was doing it to him.
A few years later, we were at a family dinner in which both my parents and my in laws were in attendance. I had had surgery that caused me some problems when I ate. Shirley offered to do "therapeutic touch" to help my stomach settle. Brian again laughed and told Shirley that 'we' didn't do voodoo. I told Brian to speak for himself, as I was so miserable at the time, I was willing to do anything. I lay quietly on the floor with my eyes closed and Shirley performed "therapeutic touch" for the first time. I could feel negative energy and pain actually leaving my body. I don't know how to describe it appropriately, but I can honestly say it felt 'good.' My stomach settled down and I was able to rejoin the family party. I feel this was 100% due to therapeutic touch.
There have been at least two other instances in which my family has utilized TT. In December of 2002, I was bitten by a spider on my leg. My leg developed a very serious case of cellulitus. The doctor's opinion was that I could have very well either lost that part of my leg or they were going to open that part of my leg to debrid it. Neither treatment option was guaranteed to save my leg. Though both options would take me off my feet for 2-6 months. I requested that Shirley perform TT several times before my next visit with the surgeon. Shirley essentially dropped everything to come to my aid. This TT treatment was VERY different from that which she performed on my stomach before. I could tell that my energy was causing Shirley significant discomfort.
We kept track of the progress my cellulitus was making by marking my leg with permanent ink. I will be forever convinced that the TT shrunk the cellulitus and saved the part of the calf that I was in danger of losing. My Mother who is also a registered nurse and is a firm believer in western medicine ... and even SHE believes that TT saved my leg.
I asked Shirley to look at my husband's restless legs. I was hoping TT would assist Brian with the jerking he suffers at bedtime. As I hinted before, Brian is fairly stubborn ... so we'll keep working on him. :-)
I have recently had surgery. I haven't called on Shirley ... yet.
I would definitely recommend therapeutic touch for anybody at any age for any condition.
